Meet Mark Tan. Co-founder of OHHMYBOX. A curated subscription service for the modern male, allowing you to automatically receive a new box every month filled with the latest lifestyle and grooming products.
Where did you get the idea for your business?
We got the idea for our business while looking for subscription boxes. We’ve always been intrigued by the idea of subscription boxes but realized that there was none for men in Singapore. So we decided to capitalize on this and launched a subscription box company.
How did you get your business started?
I started the business by sourcing the right type of people that I can work with. This is a very important step as a great team is the first step to growing a great business. From there, we planned and the rest of it was history. We’ve never looked back since then and I learn something new every day.
What lessons have you learned so far on your business journey?
Being an e-commerce biz, we’ve learnt a lot from the manufacturing to retail side and much more. We were forced to pick up many new skills along the way which have helped to grow our business. We’ve definitely learnt that as the team knowledge grows, and the business will grow alongside too.
How important for you has it been to have a mentor?
We started this company without having any mentors or experience. Being graduates ourselves, we wanted to just go out into the working world and do something. Through this, we’ve learnt many things the hard way and picked up a lesson or two along the way. If given a choice, it would be great to start off with a mentor but don’t be afraid to just go out there and give it a try.
What are your top three tips for starting a business?
