Pushing the Boundaries of Jewellery

Introducing Ele Miško. A fine jewellery brand based in Melbourne, specialising in contemporary, luxury, custom made bespoke fine jewellery. This is her entrepreneurial story.

Where did you get the idea for your business?

I studied Fine Art at RMIT, majoring in Jewellery.

How did you get your business started?

The NEIS program at RMIT.

What lessons have you learned so far on your business journey?

Big question! Every little facet of what you do in your business is a lesson. Everything is trial and error. Everything is learning and over time everything flows more freely.

How important for you has it been to have a mentor?

Mentors! I have so many across a variety of backgrounds, ages and experience and I’m still meeting them. They are super important! They are the ones that give you advice on which colour flooring you should install in your studio, how to raise your presence on social media or which bookkeeping method you should go with. The more variety of opinion/advice the better!

What are your top 3 tips for starting a business?

1. Choose something you are passionate about.
2. Believe in it 100 percent – don’t listen to all the haters!
3. Be smart with how you set things up-tailor it to you and the lifestyle you want to live.

Ele Misko is a graduate of the RMIT Certificate IV in Small Business Management (2014).
